Restrictions increased on freedom of expression. Authorities clamped down on peaceful protests, including by using excessive force which led to deaths.

Law enforcement officials continued to commit human rights violations, including unlawful killings and torture. Perpetrators were not held to account. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people continued to face discrimination and violence.
