Eritrea: Independence Day Colorfully Marked in the Southern Region

Mendefera — The Administration of the Southern region marked the 21st Independence Day anniversary in Mendefera at regional level. The event was celebrated in the presence of Ministers, high-ranking military officers, diplomats and members of the Eritrean community in Port Sudan.

Carnival shows by Administrations of 12 sub-zones, construction companies, Associations, factories and others featured in the event that was inaugurated by Mr. Woldemichael Gebremariam, Minister of Local Government. The carnival shows depicted socio-economic developments in the country, diversity of natural resources and archaeological artifacts in the region, as well as the nation-wide progress made in reinforcing the agriculture sector, reports indicated.

Ambassador Suleiman Haj, Administrator of Mendefera sub-zone, commended the active participation of the local inhabitants in organizing the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, the regional Administrator, underscored that the nation's bright future is more apparent than ever before thanks to the prevailing spirit of steadfastness among nationals inside the country and abroad, and that the regional Administration would focus on increased endeavors and effective work schemes as regards future undertakings.

Reports indicated that different artistic works were also staged.
