Kenya: Wamalwa Seeks Time On Appointments Row

The government yesterday failed to explain the controversial appointment of county commissioners by President Kibaki. Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa who appeared before the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee of parliament yesterday requested for more time.

According to Wamalwa, who sat for his colleagues Internal Security minister George Saitoti and Attorney General Githu Muigai, the reason for requesting more time was to enable the relevant government agencies and departments top consult over the appointments. The ministers, he explained, will meet today to consult and come up with a common position to be presented to CIOC.
