Uganda: Streamline Immigration Procedures, Govt Told

Immigrants have asked Government to streamline the immigration procedures.

Indian Investors have also demanded that government grants full citizenship to those who have stayed in Uganda for a long period.

The Indian investors through the Indian association of Uganda said their children who have been born and educated in Uganda should be given full citizenship because they are Ugandans and foreigners in India.

The Indian investors were speaking at a consultative dialogue organized by the Internal affairs Ministry on the draft National Migration polity in Kampala on Thursday.

They want their children born in Uganda more than 20 years ago to be granted Ugandan citizenship.

The association chairperson, Rajesi Chaplot told New Vision in a separate interview that the absence of a policy that grants full citizenship to people born to migrants in Uganda has rendered their children stateless.
