Mogadishu — The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is shocked and outraged by today's murder of a radio journalist in Mogadishu, the sixth such killing of a journalist in Somalia this year.

Ahmed Addow Anshur, 25, was murdered on Thursday, 24 May 2012, by four men armed with pistols in Suq Bo'le neighbourhood of Dharkenley district at around 13:45 hours local time. Anshur was shot four times in the head and chest resulting him to die on the spot.

"We strongly condemn this indescribable murder of Ahmed Addow Anshur whose work as a journalist over the years has been lauded for his high professional quality and integrity," said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General. "It is obvious that he was murdered in the exercise of his professional work as a journalist so that he does not expose uncomfortable truth".

Anshur was a tower of strength for Radio Shabelle and has been involved in investigations and reporting of corruption cases with Hassan Osman Abdi (Hassan Fantastic), Director of Radio Shabelle who was murdered on 28 January 2012. The journalist received several death threats for these corruption cases before and after the death of Hassan Fantastic. The journalist was the presenter of well-liked evening programme, "Qubanaha Wararka", meaning in English "news content"

"In April 2012, he told me, after finishing an interview on the investigations of murder of Hassan Fantastic, that he is afraid to leave the premises of Shabelle Media Network because he fears for his life," confirmed Osman.

NUSOJ calls on Transitional Federal Government and the African Union Peacekeeping troops in Mogadishu to act firmly and urgently to dispel the climate of impunity for attacks on journalists" added Osman.

Ahmed Addow Anshur, a member of NUSOJ's Banadir branch, is the sixth journalist murdered in Somalia in this year. He is the third Radio Shabelle journalist murdered in this year after Hassan Fantastic and Mahad Salad Adan who was murdered on 5 April 2012. He left pregnant wife.

The wars of today use the religion of Islam to do a great evil by using the name of God (Allah) without God’s (Allah’s) permission. Today God (Allah) has given no person permission to kill humans in the name of God (Allah). The wars of today are an insult to God (Allah) when they claim to be Holy and they have nothing to do with what God (Allah) has commanded. The proof is that the wars of today use the religion of Islam for human made purposes where people use the name of God (Allah) to kill other Muslims. Shame is on the Muslim in Somalia who kills other Muslims in Somalia. Today the best examples of Muslims are those who spread the word of God (Allah) in peace and friendship to all the peoples of the world. May the peaceful deeds done by the journalists in Somalia such as Ahmed Addow Anshur be rewarded with the peace of Paradise Insh’allah. https://sites.google.com/site/islamandthequran
