Angola: International Seminar on Election Coverage Ends in Luanda

Luanda — The International Workshop on Election Coverage sponsored by the Social Communication closed Friday in Luanda.

The training programme aimed at enhancing the knowledge of professionals during general elections scheduled for 2012 in Angola.. The closing ceremony of the seminar that opened last Wednesday was presided over by the Angolan Social Communication minister, Carolina Cerqueira.

The workshop brought together professionals from State and privately-owned media organs and the lecturers included experts from Angola, Portugal, Brazil and US.

The training was aimed primarily at promoting an exchange of experience between Angolan and foreign journalists. The event focussed on the knowledge of the electoral legislative package, compliance with standards linked to professionalism, pluralism, impartiality, objectivity and respect for ethics and journalistic deontology.

The opening ceremony was chaired by vice minister of the sector, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho.

The professionals Carlos Rosado de Carvalho, Ernesto Bartolomeu, José Rodrigues dos Santos, Luís Costa Ribas and Xico Teixeira, were also among the lecturers.
