Kenya: Illegal Ivory From Mombasa Impounded in Sri Lanka

THREE containers with ivory which had been shipped from the Mombasa, have been seized in Sri Lanka, the Kenya Wildlife Service says.

In a statement, KWS said preliminary investigations indicated that a fourth container, whose contents are yet to be verified, is being held by Kenya Revenue Authority at the Kilindini Port. This comes barely months after several containers were impounded at the port. It was suspected that the containers had ivory. The KWS statement indicated that preliminary investigations have confirmed that the two of the three containers seized on Tuesday at Colombo Port in Sri Lanka and had entered the country through Malaba border point on the Kenya-Uganda border.
