Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi said he will not accept the position of vice president to Mohamed Mursi or Ahmed Shafiq, both of whom will go into the runoff of Egypt's election.
It is more honourable to join opposition ranks to continue the revolution, he added at a press conference at his campaign's headquarters on Saturday.
Sabahi announced he will appeal the results of the election. He stated that his campaign detected documented violations and irregularities by competing candidates to gain votes illegitimately, including hundreds of thousands of police and army men casting their votes for these candidates.
Sabahi said he was certain his appeals would be accepted and he would become the second contender in the runoff when the final result is announced.
Sabahi paid tribute to those who gave their votes to him. He stressed that Egypt will continue to back the revolution, social justice and dignity. Egypt's respect for the rights of the martyrs will not cease, he added.
Sabahi stated that Egypt does not want the tyranny of the former regime nor tyranny in the name of religion.
