Liberia: Unification Day

opinion

Unification Day; a day for the demonstration of brotherliness, oneness and unity

A day to cherish and pay to Liberia, this 'sweet Land of Liberty,' all the solidarity

A day to be proud of and hold fast onto our singular identity of similarity

A day to trash out our differences in spite of whatever disparity

Yes Unification Day.

A day for the people from Bomi, Cape Mount to Gbarpolu to sincerely laugh with each other

Then the masses in Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa will happily live together

So those from Bong, Rivercess and Sinoe will joyously walk hand in hand under a very bright weather

That the citizens of Nimba, Grand Gedeh and Lofa will totally put aside all their differences altogether

So that those in River Gee, Maryland and Grand Kru be bounded together by one cord of love forever

Ooh Unification Day.

A day that never again any of us would dream about any kind of retaliation

No matter what may be the justification

But that all would sit around one table for the negotiation of peace for the sake of reconciliation

So that we all can stand for this land and fight for conflict alleviation

And then we all can strongly say no to any form of confrontation

This is exactly a day when we all must warmly embrace unity and eschew division

Ooh yes, Unification Day.

A day that the guns, intra fight, greed and hate we will all silence

No matter what could be the degree of whatever may be our grievance

Never again will we indulge in any form of vengeance

But we all will deal with each other in the spirit of forgiveness and patience

So that others can really see and know that we are of great substance

Let there be no place again in our hearts for pretence

So we can together forge ahead with one spirit of national coexistence

Really, this is Unification Day...
