Carthage — Preparations for the Maghreb Summit scheduled next October in Tunis were discussed at a meeting held Friday in Carthage between Interim President Moncef Marzouki and Arab Maghreb Union Secretary General Habib Ben Yahia.

Mr. Ben Yahia briefed Mr. Marzouki on ongoing preparations to "ensure the success of the Summit and give it a historical dimension on the way of materialising the unity of Maghreb peoples and their aspirations," a statement of the Presidency of the Republic said.

Mr. Habib Ben Yahia said the regional situation and changes taking place in the Maghreb countries have given the needed impetus to the restructuring of AMU institutions which "now should meet the expectations of peoples of the region," the statement added.
