Tunisia: Clarifications On Rumour of Nuclear Waste Dumping Near El Hamma

Tunis — The Health Ministry makes public the announcement that, following the dissemination on social networks of a rumour about nuclear waste that might have been dumped in Ben Ghilouf, in El-Hamma region of the Gabes Governorate, and more precisely around the Gib Eddoukhane geothermal water-coolers zone, an investigation was conducted jointly by teams from the National Radio-protection Centre and the National Nuclear Sciences and Technologies Centre.

"The preliminary findings are reassuring," the Ministry asserts, "as measurements evidence the existence of acceptable natural radioactivity rates."
