Kenya: Mosocho Gun Down Motonto in Ongwae Cup Shootout

HOSTS Mosocho FC beat Motonto Arsenal 5-4 on post match penalties to win the James Ogwae Cup. The teams played to a 1-1 draw after extra time at Mosocho playground in Kitutu Chache constituency. Stephen Asuma gave Motonto the lead in the 46th minute but Vincent Orina equalized for the hosts in stoppage time to send the game into extra time.

During the dramatic shootouts, Evans Nyakundi, Josephat Obwogi, Collins Makori, Richard Obuba converted for Mosocho while Mayaka Orina, Douglas Rasugu, and Stephene Asuma scored for Motonto. In the third and fourth place play off, Eronge narrowly edged out Nyakoora Super Strikers 1-0. A total of 20 teams participated in the tournament that was sponsored by former permanent secretary James Ongwae.

Winners received Sh10, 000, a set of uniforms and a trophy while runners up received Sh7, 000 and a set of uniforms from Ogwae who was the chief guest. Ongwae asked clubs in the Kenya Premier League to identify and tap talent from such tournaments.
