Tanzania: Zanzibar Prosecutes 30 'Rioters'

Zanzibar — THIRTY people were arraigned before Mwanakwerekwe district court on Monday in connection with last weekend's unrest in Zanzibar as the Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Emmanuel Nchimbi, called on all religious and political leaders to join forces in making sure that Zanzibar remains peaceful.

The suspects were taken to different magistrates and accused of illegal assembly and causing unrest at the weekend. They all denied the charges and their prayer for bail was accepted with conditions of signing bonds worth between 300,000/- and 500,000/-.
