Zambia: Five Die in Chipata Road Accident

FIVE people died on the spot in a road traffic accident that happened at Mgubudu area on Chipata-Lundazi Road in Chipata, Eastern Province.

Provincial police chief, Grace Chipalila confirmed the accident in Chipata yesterday which happened on Tuesday around 21:00 hours.

She said a Zambian Breweries truck, registration number ABH 994, collided with a car, registration number ABT 2480.

"There was a road traffic accident along Lundazi-Chipata Road yesterday (Tuesday) around 21:00 hours where a truck and a car had a head-on collision and five lives were lost in the tragedy," Ms Chipalila said.

And Chipata Municipal Council chief fire officer Fackson Mbewe identified the deceased as Adam Mwale, 18, BA Mwale, 25, Joe Shawa, 37, Jonathan Njobvu, 18, and Robert Phiri, whose age was not yet known.

Mr Mbewe said the five bodies were in Chipata General Hospital mortuary.
