Kenya Airways has resumed Nairobi-Eldoret route with two daily flights starting July 4th, and another destination to where it'll operate twice a day flights with Embraer E170 aircraft.
The airport is largely under utilized although it lies in the tourism and agriculture rich Rift Valley, and according to Kenya Airways Group Managing Director Titus Naikuni the decision to fly to there is based on growing passenger volumes as devolution takes root and more businesses take advantage of the unfolding economic opportunities. "Eldoret is a busy town and as more people seek opportunities in the counties, we expect passenger volumes to grow," Said Naikuni.
KQ has also added Kilimanjaro International Airport in Northern Tanzania as one of its latest destinations, starting July 2, with six flights a week until September 30, then increase to daily flights from October 1. "Kilimanjaro is a strategic destination in the region owing to the vibrant tourism circuit in the hinterland including the Serengeti," said Naikuni.
