Gambia: Pedophile Case Transferred to SCC

Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe of the Banjul Magistrates' Court last Thursday ordered the transfer of a rape case involving the state against one Musa Jallow to the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

The accused is charged with rape contrary to Section 122 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume III, Laws of The Gambia 1990. The particulars of offence stated that the accused on or about the 14th May 2012 at Jenun Kunda in the West Coast Region unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) without her consent.

The presiding Magistrate revealed that his court does not have the jurisdiction to try the case. He further ordered for the accused to be remanded on a holding charging pending his proper arraignment at the SCC.
