Namibia: Amundaba Goes Solo

After showcasing her talent at the Home décor group exhibition which was held in 2010, Foibe Amundaba held her first solo exhibition at the Blue Frog restaurant on Monday this week.

The exhibition titled 'A line of Stories' attracted much attention and appreciation from art lovers. Amundaba said that she was very pleased with the outcome of the attendance. 'A Line of Stories' is based on the idea that one single line creates a story with many characters even though the observer is not always aware of it.

Amundaba's inspiration comes from her love to try out new techniques and portray images in a different view. She believes that the message she portrays in her exhibition was conveyed successfully to the audience . Even those people who thought they knew her work have been given a dose of something new by the art on exhibit.

She studied at the John Muafangejo Arts Center for three years before completing a product development diploma at the College of the Arts, and has participated in many group exhibitions since 2008. Her projects include Eden Street No 1 where she showcased her art in an exhibition titled 'Home Décor' together with other artists.

Amundaba has more art projects in the pipeline and is hoping that they will be received with the same warmth that her solo exhibition was elicited. "Namibians are starting to embrace art although there is a need for understanding the arts and its benefits within a cultural and economic development framework. Namibians need to start recognizing art as a subject" she said.
