Nigeria: Senate Adjourns Sitting to June 19

The Senate has adjourned its sitting to June 19 after completing the first year of its inauguration.

Senate President David Mark, who explained that the current mood of the nation could not allow any celebration, thanked God for seeing the Senate through in the past year.

Also yesterday, Mark expressed his support for the review of the revenue sharing formula.

Speaking after the Senate confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Martina Odom (Cross River) as a member of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mark noted that there were agitations for the review of the revenue allocation formula in some quarters.

He called on the Senate Committee on Constitution Review to look into the issue in its efforts towards the new phase of the amendment of the 1999 constitution.

The revenue sharing formula was excluded from the 16-point agenda recently released for amendment.
