Sources close to the Daily Observer have revealed that the commissioner general of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), as well as two other senior and one ex-official of the Authority have been arrested and detained.

The arrest and detention of Commissioner General Bakary Sanyang;Mamoud Joof, deputy commissioner ,Tax Office Operation; Louie Mustapha Gillen, deputy commissioner. Large Taxpayers Unit and Musukebba Corr, ex-commissioner, Domestic Tax came less than 24hrs after the Tax Commission's report was presented to the Gambian leader at State House.

The report revealed a loss in government revenue to the tune of over D2 billion. Among the recommendations of the Commission as highlighted by its chairperson, Justice Mama Fatima Singhateh, is the dissolution and replacement of the current GRA Board, prosecute named persons including GRA officials found criminally liable to the findings of the Commission. The report further recommended for the wholesale purging of the GRA management.
