Egypt: Govt Urges Swift Move to End Bloodshed in Syria

Egypt's permanent delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmadeen Khalil urged the international community to move swiftly to end the bloodshed in Syria.

In an address to a UN General Assembly meeting on Thursday 07/06/2012, Khalil said the situation in Syria has become intolerable, demanding the international community to assume its moral responsibility to stop the suffering of the Syrian people.

Khalil, who spoke on behalf of the Arab group, asked member states to take decisive measures to reach a final and peaceful solution for the deteriorated situation in Syria.

The Arab group is categorically rejecting the use of violence against civilian, he added, calling on the Syrian government to stop all violence acts against civilians.

Khalil voiced rejection for foreign military intervention in Syria, asserting the necessity of immediate and full implementation of UN-Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan's six-point plan.
