The weekend fighting between tribesmen and the army is said to be over smuggling routes.
At least 16 people were reported killed in the southern Libyan region of Kufra after two days of fighting between government forces and tribal fighters. The Tripoli newspaper quoted a spokesman for the Transitional National Council government as saying the fighting started on Saturday June 9, 2012 after members of the Toubou tribe attacked a checkpoint and tried to steal vehicles from a security building.
