Calabar — The Cross River State government has resolved to prepare it annual budgets in local languages in order for the citizens to be aware of what is happening in the state, Special Adviser to Governor Liyel Imoke on Budget Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Peter Otti has said.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Calabar, he said the decision is part of government's resolve to show transparency in all its financial transactions, including budgeting and implementation.
"This is aimed at uniquely simplifying the contents of our annual budget to enable everyone understand it. This is why government has approved for us to publish the budget not only in English, but in the three major languages in the state, including Efik, Ejagham and Bekwara," he said.
He said the state government has also introduced a new budgeting system which is called, "Medium Term Expenditure Framework" aimed at establishing credible means of allocating public resources to their strategic priorities.
