Nigeria: Group Threatens to Sue Kano Govt Over LG Election

Kano — A group, grassroots anti-corruption awareness network initiative, has threatened to sue the Kano State government if it fails to constitute the state electoral commission to conduct local government elections in the state within a month.

Chairman of the group, Alhaji Muhuyi Magaji who gave the threat at a press briefing in Kano said the current system of interim management officers is not acceptable as it is capable of setting a bad precedent for future administrations in the state.

"We are calling on the present administration of Kano State to as a matter of urgency, constitute an independent state electoral commission based on the relevant status and mandate and provide them with necessary logistics for conducting election into local government councils," he said.
