Nigeria: New Electricity Tariff Not to Short Change Consumers - Minister

Makurdi — Minister of Power and Steel Development, Prof. Bath Naji has assured that the newly introduced electricity tariff is not aimed at short changing ordinary Nigerians, but to ensure stability and effective power supply in the country.

Speaking at an event organized by National Orientation Agency (NOA) Benue State office in Makurdi yesterday, the minister, who was represented by the Minister of State for Power, Arch. Darius Ishaku said the decision of government to privatize the power sector was due to lack of resources to provide adequate electricity. He pointed out that at present, what Nigerians are consuming as electricity is not acceptable. The Director General of National Orientation Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri, on his part, said that the views of Benue people on the new tariff will be forwarded to the Federal Government to ensure that consumers pay only for what they consume.
