Egypt: Parliament Committee Approves Police Academy Bill

The People's Assembly Defense and National Security Committee approved on Monday 11/6/2012 a new Police Academy bill.

The bill introduces amendments to law No. 91 for the year 1975 on the establishment of the Police Academy.

Under the sanctioned amendments the academy's chief should chair the admission panel whose members should include the assistant interior minister for personnel affairs, the assistant interior minister for national security, the assistant interior minister for public security and the academy's deputy chief in addition to the head of the police training institution.

The bill says that the panel's decisions cannot be final without being endorsed by the interior minister.
