South Africa: Service Delivery Chaos

More than 100 residents from the temporary residential area in Delft overturned rubbish bins and blocked Symphony Road with burning tyres last week in a protest against poor service delivery.

Warrant Officer November Filander said about these people had been protesting on Symphony Road since 7.30am demanding better service delivery.

One of the residents living in the TRA said they have waited long enough for their houses.

"It's already winter and we are still stuck in these here. We were told that there is temporary housing so why aren't we being moved?" asked Veronique Ntlekiso.

Local ward councillor Kayalethu Makeleni said the protest were linked to homes being sold illegally for as little as R4 000.
