South Africa: Vital Tools for Mid-Year Exams

opinion

Mid-year exams are coming up in a few weeks and many learners might feel they don't know where to begin studying. Whether it's for your favourite maths equation or least favourite essay type English exam paper, remember studying equals academic success. However, some of you might be struggling to get into the swing of things or often don't know how to study.

Studying takes effort. If you know that you take a while to focus, start preparing well before your exams. Get organized and make an effort to set up a study timetable to improve your study habits. You are responsible for your own future. If you are unsure or struggling with something do not hesitate to ask your teacher for help.

He/she will be more than willing to give you guidance. Studying in a group or discussing study material with friends is a great way to deepen your understanding. Draw up your own personal study guide by making a list of all the important information from your work books and class notes.

Write down all the facts your teacher noted as important. Making study cards have also helped many learners get over stumbling blocks such as word definitions. Write a word or idea on the back of the card, and then have a friend or parent test your knowledge. Remember, what you put in, you will get out. Own your future and your success.

If you are in Grade 12 and you need information, advice or tips for specific exams keep your "Tips for success" booklets and CD's handy.
