The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has resolved the conflict between the national secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Alhaji Aliyu Habu Fari, principal secretary to the party's national chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
PDP national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, who spoke with newsmen at the party's national secretariat, said the PDP like every big organization, has its problems, but that they have settled it amicably.
"We have read the exchange of communications but we have resolved the matter amicably as PDP has internal mechanism to resolve our problems. The national secretary is an elected officer of the party and he is the chief administrative and accounting officer for the party. The national secretary confers with chairman on party issues. The chairman has the right to handle issue personally or through his aides. But we regret this administrative lapse and we promise that it will never happen again," he stated.
The publicity secretary said the NWC is now committed to ensuring that such rifts never happen again adding that the party has learnt lessons and will not allow the NWC and millions of its members to be embarrassed again.
Metuh however described as untrue media reports that the division was caused by the existence of of opposing camps being backed by President Goodluck Jonathan on one hand, and Vice President Namadi Sambo and Gov. Rotimi Amaechi on the other.
The PDP spokesperson said the visit of party delegation to South Africa about three weeks ago was not to strategise on how to remove President Jonathan as being alleged but to campaign for the eventual emergence of Bethel Amadi as President of African Parliament.
"Nothing can be farther from the truth. There is no division in the NWC. The national chairman, the national secretary, and all NWC members are completely loyal to the President as leader of the party. There has never been any time that we have such division. This NWC enjoys the support of Jonathan-Sambo ticket. The ticket is one and indivisible and we are working with the President and Vice President in order to ensure the provision of more dividends of democracy," he stated.
