Rwanda: Unwanted Pregnancies Among School Children Should Be Eliminated

After finding out that the number for young girls who get pregnant is increasing and especially girls in the 9&12 Year Basic Education, Nyamasheke district administration made decisions to reduce and eliminate this problem.

This was said by Etienne Bankundiye the health officer in Nyamasheke district, this problem has to be solved in this district and he said that among the decisions made to stop this, there is sensitization in all primary schools of 9 &12 YBE and the youth that doesn't go to school through concerts with musicians, games and competitions starting with 7th.June.2012.

A concert for Orchestre Amis des Jeunes is prepared for 17th.June.2012 in Karengera in Kilimbi sector and a completion for poems and short plays among students on the theme saying "child, ask your parent about your reproductive health".

On the 1st.July.2012, the same concert will be held in Kagano sector at the same place with the competition of football and basketball between sectors on the theme saying "parent, talk to your child about her reproductive health, protect your child."

Bankundiye said that this sensitization will be done always and it will prevent young girls from getting unwanted pregnant, to be protected about HIV/AIDS and other Sexual Transmitted Diseases.
