South Africa/Gabon: Bafana Bafana to Use Gabon Match to Turn Things Around

Bafana Bafana players are hoping to use the international friendly clash against Gabon to turn things around for the national team.

South Africa will face the Central African country on Friday, 15 June 2012 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Kickoff is at 20h30

Bafana Bafana recently played two one-all draws against Ethiopia and Botswana in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

"There have been ups and downs for the whole team, and now we are trying to get the confidence back to win matches. It's very difficult at the moment but we have to pull together not only as a team but also as a nation and positive results will come soon," said Lebohang Mokoena.

The midfielder didn't play in the last two Bafana Bafana matches but remains confident of featuring against Gabon.

"Being here in the national team is an honour and should I get an opportunity to play I will do my best for the country. It is not about Lebohang or individuals that want glory, but we need a collective that will go out there and be ready to deliver good results," added Mokoena.

"At the moment there's a lot of negativity out there about the team, but I believe good results will come and we will be able to turn things around - that's what we need right now, we need a win more than any other thing. We are not going to take this match as a friendly, we need to use it to get back to our winning ways."

Sweden-based forward May Mahlangu is also optimistic about Bafana Bafana's chances despite the difficult fixture ahead.

"Every country is improving, and that means we also have to improve if we are to win. There are no easy teams any more but we have to go out there and fight for a win against Gabon. That they are ranked above us should not be an issue, what matters is how we perform on the day," said Mahlangu.

"Gabon is a very strong side and it's going to be difficult but we must just go out there with a positive mind and the win will come. We must just continue to work hard as we have always been doing."

Bafana Bafana will leave for Nelspruit on Thursday morning (14 June) and will train at the match venue in the evening.
