Nigeria: Governor Okorocha Drops Six Commissioners

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has reshuffled his cabinet, dropping six commissioners and naming new ones.

A statement from the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Eze Madumere, in Owerri on Wednesday, gave no reasons for the development. The statement named the dropped commissioners as Mrs Chioma Ogoke of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Nelson Ezerioha of Transport and Dr Obinna Duruji of Information and Strategy.

Others are Mr Benjamin Enwere, Commerce and Industry; Ejike Uche, Public Utilities and Rural Development, and Alex Ogwazuo, Culture and Tourism. The political appointees were directed to hand over all government property in their possession to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries.

"His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, wishes them well in their future endeavours," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the six commissioner-nominees are Mr Chinedu Offor, the former Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, and Messrs Charles Onuoha, Chima Iwuchukwu, Emma Ekweremba, Uche Mbanaso and Mrs Ugochi Okoro.
