Tomorrow, Sheraton hotel will hold the vintage automobile exhibition showcasing cars made in 1979 and before.
Over 50 cars will be displayed at the hotel gardens. A team of professional judges from Automobile Association of Uganda (AAU) will then choose the winning car whose owner will walk away with two return air tickets to Istanbul, courtesy of Turkish Airways.
The winning car will be judged on age, beauty, functionality and originality. Among the cars to be displayed, The Observer has learnt, are some that we have run on these pages in the 'Wheels' column. Notable among these are SWICO boss Joseph Kiwanuka's classic Volvo and mechanic Andrew Kaggwa's 1960 Dutsun.
Rally aces Chipper Adam's 1928 Ford and Arthur Blick Jr's 60s Amphibian will also feature. The show's organizer, Dr John Nuwagaba, has promised a more glamorous event than the first edition, held in 2009 at the Uganda museum.
There will be performances by Isaiah Katumwa, Tshila and the Fiction Sounds band, Nuwagaba has said. Live art painting by celebrated artists will also grace the fete. All exhibitors will receive VIP treatment, including free fuel, dinning, and free access to all the functions at the hotel on the day.
Car owners will also get an automatic membership to Sheraton hotel's health club. Other prizes to be won include gift hampers and cash. Gates open at midday and the event is open to the public.
Tickets are now on sale at Sheraton at Shs 25,000 for adults and Shs 10,000 for children. There are no VIP tickets. Entry of cars is still open, so call +256772845512 for more details. The show is supported by City Oil, Sheraton hotel, Turkish Airways and AAU, among other partners.
