Tunisia: President Marzouki Calls for Complying With Laws On Right to Hold Demonstrations and State of Emergency

Tunis — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki urged Tunisians on Thursday to comply with the laws on the right to hold demonstrations and the state of emergency.

He also called for "avoiding any act that might lead to repeat the tragedy of young Fahmi Ouni," who was shot dead last Tuesday in Sousse while participating in an attack against a police station.

"We urge all Tunisians to be committed to national unity and not to be led into the trap of discord whatever their disagreement," said President Marzouki in a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic.

Marzouki had expressed on Thursday morning his condolences to the relatives of Fahmi Ouni and his thanks for refusing any use of this painful incident for political ends, declared the Spokesman of the Presidency.

The President also expressed compassion to all those who were injured during the recent events, quoting in particular the policemen wounded while fulfilling their duty to ensure the security of citizens and private and public property.
