Kenya: KWS Ranger Shot Dead in Love Dispute

A Kenya Wildlife Service ranger in Isiolo district was yesterday gunned down by his colleague on allegation that he had an illicit affair with his wife. Gababo Huka, a corporal, shot dead Noordin abdi Gurreh of Isiolo KWS investigative unit four times in the chest in Isiolo town after he had alighted from a vehicle belonging parastatal.

The killing comes barely two weeks after the corporal raised concern over the officer and raised the issue with his bosses following an alleged affair with his wife by a friend.

Officers at the KWS station said Huka had earlier engaged his colleague in a heated argument following the alleged affair and accused his bosses of failing to solve the matter amicably.

Isiolo KWS boss Silas Mureithi said they launched investigation into the allegation two weeks after the matter was reported to them. Huka presented himself at the Isiolo Police Station where he recorded statement and was disarmed. Isiolo OCPD Daniel Kamanza said the officer will be charged with murder.
