The House of Representatives has appointed former Managing Director of Intercontinental Insurance Plc, Mr. Rowland Madiebo, as the Consultants to assist the Chambers in its planned review of Federal Government insurances.
The Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Mr. Jubrin Abdulmuminu, confirmed this at a meeting of the House Sub-committee on Insurance in Abuja recently.
He reiterated the fact that his committee was assigned the responsibility of reviewing the risk transfer programme of government.
Abdulmuminu said Madiebo would bring his untainted experience to bear on the committee's work which, according to him, is basically to make the insurance industry more responsive to the growth of the nation's economy.
This is the first time legislators in the country will be beaming their search light on the insurances of the federal government after the collapse of monopoly in the industry.
Previous attempts by the National Assembly to fine-tune insurance laws in the country, including amendments to of Insurance Act, 2003 and NAICOM Act, 1987, as well as the Motor Insurance Third Party Act and the repeal of the Workmen's Compensation 1948 as amended. failed.
Madiebo, a seasoned insurance professional, has over 39 years experience in the industry. A Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FCIIN), Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII) and Associate of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, he has traversed different areas of insurance practice.
Madiebo started his insurance carrier with Unity Life and Fire Insurance Company Limited in 1973 and moved on to B.C. Madiebo and Company Limited (Insurance Brokers and Pension Consultants) where he rose to the position of the Managing Director.
He was later appointed Managing Director of Intercontinental Assurance Company Limited, a position he occupied between 1994 and 2006.
After recapitalisation in 1987, he was appointed Executive Director, Technical, UnityKapital Assurance Plc. He is currently, Chairman of RIM Insurance Brokers Limited.
