Kenya: Boda Boda Riders Prey On Schoolgirls

THE children's department has decried increased cases of defilement of school girls by boda boda riders in Siaya county. Siaya county children's director Humphrey Wandeo said the rampant cases of defilement of school girls are a matter of great concern. He singled Bondo district as the leading among the six districts in the county in cases of defilement.

Wandeo regretted that the riders lure the girls into illicit love affairs which often results in pregnancies and consequently force the girls to drop out of school.

"With the new county system in place we are going to flash out those responsible for the vice and ensure they are apprehended and arraigned in court," he said. Wandeo was speaking yesterday during a children's stakeholders' baraza at Nango trading center in Bondo district,.

He decried the rampant cases of children rights violations on the beaches, adding that cases of sexual molestation, child labour and neglect are on the increase in the district.
