Tunisia: Presidency of the Republic Condemns 'Irresponsible' Calls for Murder of Artists

Carthage — The Presidency of the Republic strongly condemned on Saturday as "irresponsible" the calls for the murder of artists "launched even in the mosques", reminding that "the freedoms of opinion, expression and artistic creation are irrevocable rights."

"The attempts of some people to take advantage of these liberties to provoke and sow discord must not blind us to their importance as gains of the Revolution to be preserved and reinforced despite all difficulties," says a communiqué of the official Spokesman for the Presidency.

President Marzouki has urged the Ministries concerned to take the necessary legal action against anyone who launched or will launch such calls, "whatever their positions or political or ideological trends," the communiqué adds.

The Presidency of the Republic expressed as well satisfaction at the performance of the police and the army who "imposed the rule of law and contained the last crisis," paying tribute to all the parties that called for peace and for thwarting the plans of the enemies of the Revolution and of national unity.
