The West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists at the weekend gave honorary fellowship to President Goodluck Jonathan for his administration's commitment to developing health care services.
It also cited President Jonathan's contribution to stabilising countries in the West African region.
The investiture on Jonathan became necessary "considering the commitment of his administration" and positive contributions in the health of the nation, said WAPCP president, Professor Fola Tayo.
Health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu accepted the investiture on behalf of the president, but said the college's effort were crucial to attaining targets set in the Millennium Development Goals.
Through the college, pharmacists would help government ensure sanity in drug distribution, said the minister.
He added government couldn't allow the country become a "dumping ground for counterfeit drugs and substandard products that are inimical to health."
