Rwanda: Burundi Extradites Murder Suspect

A man who allegedly killed a woman in Nyaruguru District and fled to Burundi was yesterday handed back to Rwandan police.

The suspect, identified as Jacques Shumbusho, was handed over by Burundian Police to their Rwandan counterparts at the Rwanda-Burundi border in Nyaruguru.

The suspect is also alleged to have severely injured the deceased's husband identified as Ngendahayo over land.

The deceased identified as Colletta Munyana, 19, was murdered late at night on March 3 this year.

According to the Police spokesperson, Supt. Theos Badege, Shumbusho and two other suspects connived to commit murder over a long standing land wrangle.

Ngendahayo was beaten while trying to rescue his wife from the attackers.

"We got information that the suspect had fled to Burundi, and informed the Burundian authorities," Badege told this paper.

He added that the deceased's body was found with deep cuts, suggesting that the suspect may have used machetes.
