Kenya: Mututho Gets Support On Alcohol Bill

A Gatundu businessman has supported Naivasha MP John Mututho for proposing to table a bill in Parliament to ban the consumption of alcohol two days before the general election. Jossy Ngugi said he conferred with the MP that many election malpractices including rigging could be curbed by ensuring that the elections are conducted in an alcohol-free atmosphere. He said elections is a serious affair and decisions made at the ballot box will determine how the country will be governed in the next five years. He called on MPs to support the bill once it is tabled in Parliament.

Ngugi, who is an aspirant for the Gatundu South parliamentary seat, was speaking in Kimunyu market in the constituency while donating a car washing machine valued at Sh150,000 to the youth Bunge. He said the youth are most vulnerable to abuse by politicians by being bought cheap alcohol to influence them and to cause chaos. He promised to support registered youth groups by funding projects. He called on the youth to take advantage of opportunities like garbage collection, car washing and tree planting to create jobs.
