Uganda: Star Trail - Desire in Hot Soup

As Desire Luzinda is still hesitant to pursue her 'attackers', police now also want her investigated.

The singer alleged that she was dragged out of her Mercedes Benz and beaten before being dumped unconscious by the roadside by people who took nothing from her or her car. She was admitted at Nsambya hospital.

Now police reportedly find her unwillingness to cooperate in the investigations suspect. Could the singer have stage-managed her attack, for publicity purposes?

"What other people think about you is none of your business," reads a quote on her Facebook.

Desire is currently back in the country after going for treatment abroad.

Row records celebrates 5 years

Row records celebrated five years of existence on the Ugandan music scene. Row records is mostly known for T-Bro the king of Kiga-Flow and Lethal. Star Trail has also learnt that the Nakawa-based label has scouted another talent called Darry though he is yet to put pen to paper.

T-Bro's Rukiga hit Omukiga Ayiname topped charts in Western Uganda last year. The party took place at Cayenne in Bukoto last week and Uganda's top urban musicians drowned themselves in champagne and cake. In the building was the Baboon Forest crew, Unique, Keko, The Mith, Rutonga, Lyrical G, and 4GB, among many others. As expected, there were some performances and back-to-back free-style rhymes. Belated happy birthday guys!

Cindy the marketer

It looks like surviving in Uganda's music industry today takes more than recording hits. Some artistes have taken to pranking fans into attending their shows by feigning accidents or crying like babies on national television. Others are aggressive and outright smart.

This was demonstrated by Cinderella Sanyu aka Cindy at the graduation of beauty therapists from Oriflame Beauty Academy held at the Swedish Ambassador's residence in Kololo last Thursday. She may have been an invited guest or the night's entertainer. The DJ of the night kept throwing her music into the mix the moment she walked in. Then she 'offered' to perform one song.

At the end of the song, she took the opportunity to tell everybody how she uses Oriflame products. She can definitely afford them but what a moment to make the big announcement with the company's bosses present. If she becomes the Ugandan face of Oriflame, you know where you heard it first.

Zari opens jewellery shop

This Friday, Socialite Zari Hussein will officially open her High End Jewellery Store at Garden City mall. The invite-only cocktail event will take place at 6pm-9pm. All top socialites in Kampala are expected to attend. We just don't know whether Judith Heard, with whom Zari recently had a public altercation, has been invited.

The shop is said to be specialising in jewellery from Italy, South Africa, USA, France and many other places. Clearly Zari clientele is carefully marked from the word go.
