Nigeria: Kaduna Violence - Students Unite for Peace

Kaduna — Muslim and Christian students of the College of Education Gidan Waya, Kafanchan in Jama'a local government area of Kaduna State yesterday pledged not to involve themselves in any ethno-religious crisis in the college and the state at large.

The leaders of the Muslim Students Society (MSS) and the Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) made the pledge while reacting to the recent bombing of churches in Kaduna and Zaria towns and the reprisal attacks that followed.

In a statement jointly signed by Muhammad Sani Lawal of the MSS and Ayuba Iko of the FCS, the students said while attacks on Churches is inhuman and condemnable, the reprisal attacks that followed was an act of senselessness.

Kindly allow me to acknowledge and congratulate the leaders of the Muslim Students Society (MSS) and the Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS)for coming out strongly to delink themselves from the current situation in Nigeria. By denouncing and stating that they would not take part in the ethno-religious violence, the students have acted based on their conscience. They have demonstrated that the interest of the state is of paramount importance and refused to be driven by selfish ends. I urge all yooung people to adopt dialogue and peaceful conflict management systems over violent ways in addressing the existing problems in Nigeris.

God bless all of you as you struggle to address the impasse in Nigeria
