Angola: Laúca Dam Valued At U.S.$.3.7 Billion

Laúca — Laúca dam, set to be the greatest hydroelectric project of Angola with production capacity of 2067 Mega Watts, is estimated at USD 3.7 billion.

Angop learnt that the construction works of the referred project will last from five to eight years.

The auto-consignation and foundation stone for the construction of the dam was laid by the Minister of State and Economic Coordination, Manuel Vicente.

The construction works will be under the responsibility of the Brazilian civil engineering company of Norberto Odebrecht and the dam will be built in Hydrographical basin of Kwanza medium, along of Kwanza River in Cambambe district, northern Kwanza Norte province.

Laúca dam, with capacity to produce power four times more than Kapanda dam, will generate energy to supply mainly the northern and central regions of the country.
