Juba — Juba University Students' Union threatened to take the administration to court due to unrest which led and dissolution of the union and suspension of its activities followed by the closure of the University of Juba, revealed a document signed by the union's president Ajang Ajang Lino, a copy of this was obtained by The Citizen.
They threatened to take the matter to court unless clear findings are revealed and transparency in dealing with the issue is shown.
"Court case will soon be opened by the students union against the administration in order for them to prove their finding should they continue to undermine the role of the students union", said the document.
According to the union, the decision made by the administration is not in line with the union's constitution chapter 8 article 22(1).
This chapter states that union can only be dissolute if it fails to convene its first meeting within 72 hours from the date of its election.
Secondly, if two thirds of its members resign before the end of the council's term.
Thirdly, by a decision of the general Assembly in an emergency meeting called by two third of the General Assembly impressed with their signatures addressed to the council chairperson, a no-confidence can be carried out against the Forty-Person Council.
Also, it is a violation against the Juba University Constitution, "the University of Juba Constitution does not authorize the Dean board to suspend or dissolute the union", revealed the statement.
Union therefore declared that it is still in active services, serving the interest of the students' community.
Union also made it very clear that the deanship of the university was not, cannot and will not ever review the students union's constitution; this was in response to the order issued by the university's Vice Chancellor stating that the deanship of the university should organize a review of the union's constitution, showed the document.
They also threatened to task the General Assembly to take action into their hands against those who individual or party which may be a hindrance to any activities of the union.
Commenting on a different order issued by the Vice Chancellor concerning evacuation of the university hostels, union demanded that if the government has decided not to give accommodation to students in any of the national universities, through the ministry concerned should make an announcement at least six months earlier prior to functioning of all the national universities where government is taking care of accommodation issue.
Otherwise, they advised the students General Assembly to disregard the ideas, "we in this case called on the students' General Assembly to reject these baseless ideas and continue to dwell in the same hostel until the university opens", it said.
