Kenya: LSK Vows to Block Change to Poll Law

THE law society of Kenya has threatened to move to court if President Kibaki signs into law the Miscellaneous Amendment Bill as passed by Parliament. The lawyers are particularly irked by two amendments, one allowing party-hopping and the other transferring the vetting of magistrates from the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates Board to Judicial Service Commission.

The society chair Eric Mutua and his deputy Renee Omondi told a press conference yesterday that LSK will first write to the president asking him to refuse to assent the Bill into law.
