The Muslim Brotherhood terminated the membership of the first elected Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi in the brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), Mahmoud Hussein, Secretary General of the brotherhood, said.

The presidential elections commission declared Mursi president with 13,230,131 votes while ex-candidate Ahmed Shafiq got 12,347,380 votes.

In a statement on the FJP website, the party attributed this step to a promise it made before the election that Mursi will be a president of all.
