According to a report by Fraternite Matin (p. 9) the UN special envoy in Cote d'Ivoire, Bert Koenders, urged yesterday Ivorian political actors to avoid hate speech and rather champion reconciliation efforts.
The announcement, the paper said, was made in the course of the mission weekly briefing held yesterday at its Abidjan headquarters. "The UN Special Envoy believes it is necessary to provide an impetus to efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and reconciliation between Ivorians after the tragic events in the west," UNOCI acting spokesperson Mrs. Sylvie Van Den Wildenberg said, adding that Mr. Koenders called on Ivorian political leaders to go personally to the west in order to pass on messages of reconciliation to the population, in order to promote lasting peace and social cohesion in Cote d'Ivoire".
