VODACOM customers have a reason to smile for using M-PESA, following introduction of rewards to customers using the service.
The Vodacom Managing Director, Mr Rene Meza, announced a 50/- airtime bonus for each receiving or sending transaction. He said those receiving the bonus were free to make calls within the Vodacom network.
"The more one sends or receives money throughout this promotion, the more bonus airtime they shall receive," he said. Mr Meza said the promotion was aimed at rewarding Vodacom customers for their continued loyalty and support.
"This promotion is exciting to Vodacom as it will encourage more of our customers to use M-PESA and allow them to see how M-PESA can change their lives and sustain our growth plans in money transfer," he noted, adding that M-PESA remains one of the most important products that Vodacom has introduced into Tanzania.
Since its launch in 2008, M-PESA has played an instrumental role in changing the way money is sent, saved, and used to buy daily needs across the country. "So far Vodacom enables over 3 million M-PESA subscribers in the country, who are set to enjoy this bonus airtime promotion," he said, adding that "Vodacom M-Pesa has over 20,000 agents.
M-PESA was first introduced into the Tanzania market in April 2008. Over the years, more service providers have included it in their financial management systems. These include utility companies such as LUKU, DAWASCO and DSTV.
M-PESA is also used to pay for local flights on Precision Air, school fees as well as examination fees to NECTA, deposit and withdraw money through CRDB Bank and more recently to pay insurance premiums and receive claims payments.
