Rwanda: Nyamasheke - Biogas to Reduce Huge Use of Firewood

EAV Ntendezi administration in Ruharambuga sector in Nyamasheke District has revealed that the biogas project will save 2/3 of the firewood that have been used in cooking.

EAV (an agriculture school in Ntendezi) Ruharambuga sector in Nyamasheke district.

Emmanuel Hanyurwimfura, Director of studies at EAV Ntendezi, revealed this to the group of people from different ministries and institutions on June 22nd 2012 during their visit to see the district performance contract execution.

Emmanuel Hanyurwimfura asserts that the school has 50 cubic meters biogas storage which will use cow dung of twenty cows the school keeps.

When asked on what is holding the biogas project to replace firewood in this school, Hanyurwimfura said that increasing the number of cows and biogas would solve the problem.

Hanyurwimfura notes that biogas will provide manure for their gardens since it's an agricultural school.

Nyamasheke district had pledged to build biogas storages in two schools of Nyamasheke district and these are; EAV/Ntendezi and GS St. Joseph where it has already started working.
