The committee for the commission fighting HIV/AIDS (CDLS) in Kirehe District met the District Advisory Council recently to remind members of the council to sensitize people on prevention of Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and dangers of HIV/AIDS
According to the coordinator CDLS in Kirehe district Aline Furaha, it is necessary for them to sensitize people and to tell them that STDs exist and that they can be easily infected if they have unprotected sex as it is with HIV/AIDS.
She also said that their aim was to show members of this council the level of AIDS in Rwanda and its dangers so that they can explain the same things to the local people.
The research that was conducted in 2009, found that 1.8Million people in the whole world died of AIDS and among these, 1.3Million are from African continent only.
About 39,251 in Kirehe district tested for HIV/AIDS and among those 287 were found infected that is to say 1percentfrom July 2011 to May 2012.
The problem is that the number of people who voluntarily test for HIV/AIDS is still low and many people who are infected are still giving birth with the virus and many youth now have AIDS and especially females as members of CDLS in Kirehe district said.
Health workers in Kirehe district said that the program of CDLS opted for of sensitizing people about the dangers of HIV/AIDS is the best and they will also play a part in it by talking to local people about AIDS during their daily work.
